For almost 30 years, The Wash House has been part of the Hemingway community—and behind this longtime local business is a family with deep roots in our town.
Owner Greg Proctor is originally from Mullins. He came to Hemingway to work as a machinist at Electroloy Carolinas and Tupperware, but Hemingway soon became home. It's where he met his wife, Mechelle, and where they raised their two sons, Stephen and Kristopher.
In March 1997, Greg took a leap into business ownership and purchased The Wash House, then located in the familiar green building on Highway 261. In 2006, when its current location became available, The Wash House moved—and the Proctor family continued serving Hemingway.
Today, it's truly a family business, with Kristopher working alongside his dad to keep things running.
When we asked Greg and Kristopher what they enjoy most about owning a business in Hemingway, they both gave the same answer:
❤️ The people.
They love seeing how things come full circle in a small town—knowing customers for years, watching families grow, seeing familiar faces walk through the door, and building relationships along the way.
After almost three decades, Greg says simply, "We have great customers."
And we think nearly 30 years of serving a small town says something pretty special about the business and the people who have supported it. 💛
🎉 So let's give Greg, Kristopher, and the entire Proctor family an early congratulations! March 2027 will mark 30 years since Greg purchased The Wash House!
That's 30 years of family, community, hard work, and hometown service.
👏 Congratulations, Proctor family—and thank you for continuing to invest in Hemingway!
